邱子桐博士，副教授，浙江大学宁波理工学院传媒与设计学院华莱坞电影研究中心的成员。她目前的研究方向：the Leverhulme Trust Project “Childhood and nation in world cinema”。
Dr Zitong Qiu is Associate Professor and member of the Huallywood Film Research Center, School of Media and Design, Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University. She is currently working on the Leverhulme Trust Project "Childhood and nation in world cinema.
六、论文摘要
This paper looks at the ways childhood, animality, and emotions are imbricated in Chinese Indonesian film director Edwin’s two feature films: Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly (2008) and Postcards From the Zoo (2012). It argues that childhood in both films externalizes the complex configuration of emotions inhabited by Chinese Indonesians as a consequence of being positioned as subject of national disgust: anxiety, fear, and shame. It argues that in the Blind Pig, the animal-imagery functions as a visual symbol allegorizing racism in contemporary Indonesia while in The Zoo animality – in the form of physical and emotional contacts between humans and non-humans – paves the way for re-imagining relations between races. By way of a cinematic transformation of all living beings into creatures, The Zoo provides the room to rethink the hierarchical ranking of species and races that shape the curren tunderstanding of Chineseness in Indonesia.
